Western U Emerg Research at SAEM 2012

The Division of Emergency Medicine Research Program is extremely pleased to announce that 5 abstracts have been accepted for presentation at the upcoming annual conference for SAEM (Society for Academic Emergency Medicine) in Chicago.

Dr. Danny Peterson (PGY-4) has been invited to give an ORAL PRESENTATION to detail the results from his research project entitled “Predictors of failure of empiric outpatient antibiotic therapy in emergency department patients with uncomplicated cellulitis.” Please join me in congratulating Danny along with Shelley McLeod and Dr. Karen Woolfrey, who was the lead investigator of this study.

Dr. Justin Yan (PGY-3) has also been invited to give an ORAL PRESENTATION to detail the results from his research project entitled “Delayed outcomes for patients with suspected renal colic after discharge from the emergency department.” Justin will also be presenting a poster entitled “Analgesic use for the management of suspected acute renal colic in the emergency department.” Please join me in congratulating Justin along with Shelley McLeod, Dr. Marcia Edmonds, Dr. Karl Theakston and Dr. Rob Sedran, who were the senior lead investigators of this study.

Dr. Sean Doran (PGY-1) will also be busy in Chicago presenting two posters outlining post-cardiac arrest research conducted with Sameer Syed (UWO medical student), Shelley McLeod, Dr. Brian Young and former LHSC ED staff Dr. Chris Martin. The titles of the abstracts are “A comparison of outcomes in post-cardiac arrest patients with and without significant intracranial pathology on head CT” and “Initial rhythm, therapeutic hypothermia and patient outcomes in cardiac arrest patients.”
