Resident Research Director
Dr. Dreyer is both a faculty member and the Research Director for the Division of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Dreyer leads monthly research meetings and advises staff and residents on how to best complete clinical studies.
Dr. Justin Yan
Clinician Researcher
As the Division of Emergency Medicine’s first clinician researcher. Dr. Yan has protected time for conducting research. His main research interests include Hyperglycemia and procedural sedation. Please see the “Current Projects” tab for Dr. Yan’s ongoing studies.
Kristine Van Aarsen
Research Coordinator for the Department of Emergency Medicine
Kristine has a Master’s in Epidemiology and Biostatics from Western University and mainly works with CCFP-EM residents and staff projects.
Branka Vujcic
Research Coordinator for the Department of Emergency Medicine
Branka has a Master’s in Epidemiology and Biostatics from Western University and mainly works with FRCPC residents and staff projects.
Tom Chen
Research Assistant
Tom is a Master’s in Epidemiology graduate who works enthusiastically on local and multi-centred projects including the Hyperglycemia, ITP, and the national COVID-19 ED Registry, as well as the soon-to-launch DKA fluid trial.
Fardowsa Halane
Research Assistant
Fardowsa has a Bachelor of Kinesiology from Western University and mainly works to assist Dr. Yan on numerous projects.
Dr. Matthew Davis
Clinician
As the regional medical director for Southwest Ontario Regional Base Hospital Program Dr. Davis’ is involved in a number of research projects but his main focus is pre-hospital emergency care. Please see the “Current Projects” tab for Dr. Davis’ ongoing studies.
Dr. Tarek Loubani
Clinician
Dr. Loubani practices emergency medicine in the Gaza strip as well as LHSC. His main research interests include global health and the creation of open-source, high-quality, low cost medical devices. Dr. Loubani holds a large Shuttleworth grant to help him achieve him goals. Please see the “Current Projects” tab for Dr. Loubani’s ongoing projects.
Dr. Naveen Poonai
Clinician
Dr. Naveen Poonai holds a number of large research grants to support his research interests of acute paediatric pain and procedural sedation. He is an Associate Scientist at the Child Health Research Institute and serves as the Research Director of the Division of Paediatric Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Frank Myslik
Clinician
As Director of the Division of Emergency Medicine’s ultrasound fellowship program Dr. Myslik’s research focus surrounds the clinical use of point-of-care ultrasound. Please see the “Current Projects” tab for Dr. Myslik’s ongoing studies.
Dr. Lisa Shepherd
Clinician
Dr. Shepherd’s main research interests are in educational and qualitative research. She has a Masters in Health Professions Education and is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable research supervisor to past and current residents. Please see the “Current Projects” tab for Dr. Shepherd’s ongoing projects.
