*Please note, due to high demand, we are currently only accepting students enrolled in a recognized medical degree program for observerships. Requests for observerships from Western University medical students will be prioritized above those from students at other medical schools. (Last updated August 2022)

The Paediatric Emergency Department (ED) at Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre accepts requests for observerships in the ED. Observers shadow one Emergency Physician throughout her/his shift in the ED, observing how the physician completes a history and physical examination, formulates a differential diagnosis and determines patient management and disposition. Exposure to the Paediatric ED environment with one-on-one exposure to a staff Paediatric ED physician is an excellent way to build an understanding and appreciation of the specialty of Paediatric Emergency Medicine. This exposure will also serve to help students trying to decide if Paediatric Emergency Medicine is a path they wish to take.
